I used the tape from Ebay but it started to lift so I took it off and have been too lazy to put it back on. I don't think I cleaned the trim good enough. If you take your time and clean the trim really good it works. You can't tell its tape unless you look really close. Eventuallty I think I will paint it but for now the tape works.
Heres a couple pics.

"Trimbrite Blackout Tape" is what I used (link below). It has to be the most economical method, introduced (at least to me) by Gordon, who has 'moved on'. Not sure where its available in the US (if thats where you are), but its available at Canadian Tire in Canada for about $5.00. You'll need two rolls of the @1.5" wide stuff for a complete job including door sills.
Good luck with it, it really changes the look, especially on black ones :)
Edit: Oops, heres the link Blackout Tape (http://www.midwayautosupply.com/detailedproductdescription.asp?335)

I wish I could take the credit for this procedure, but alas......I'm not that clever or as anally retentive a person to have done such a great job with this write-up.
Shadowline Trim Write-Up (http://vaxxine.com/gblawson/shadowline/shadowline.eht)
The credit should go to a great former member....though still a member in many of our minds....of this board. Good Ole Gordo was a guy who would perfect the smallest job after hours of tinkering. And then he'd do a web page or two to spread his mechanical wealth to us creatively challanged clod-wrenchers. Maybe you'll remember his beautiful wood VDO gauge cluster. And when it came to a beautiful E34, well, let's just say that his 535 was one of the only ones to ever give Jr's M5 a run for the roses every year we had a virtual show. Flawless was not over-describing his car.
So next time you see a guiding light in the distance, thank Mr. Lawson.

He was one the guys who always make sure the smoke was going UP on his cigarette lighter (on the picture, that is).

I painted mine. Takes a bit more effort but the results are well worth it. I've had it on now for close to a year and not had a problem with it. Got some pics here :

I bought the blackout tape because I was impresses with others' results. Haven't put in on, though. Still not sure Shadowline is the way to go...
Debating it in my head for 6 months now, and counting...

ShadowLine looks great on 90% of the E34 colors... My E34 came with factory ShadowLine:

I know, but does it look better? I can't decide. My car looks exactly like Shanek's.
You got something heavy in your trunk?

Why? They are BBS RS, NOT style 5's

....discussion we had. Sort of a "What really bugs you that passengers do in your car?" kinda thing. Gordon's was when people leave the flame in any position but up, and mine was when backseat passengers pull the wrong seatbelt and leave it out of the keeper on the package shelf.

Trunk and back seat.
If your windows aren't tinted it looks 10 times better with shadowline.
I hated the chrome trim but now that my windows are tinted it looks good.
I still prefer the shadowline though.
As for the centercaps, like Jon K said, they're BBS RS not BMW. I did think about it when I first got the car but decided against it.

Yes, I know, I just like the stock BMW markings more - but, to each his own. :)

I like stock. That's why I like stock BMW centercaps. What are you trying to say, anyway? That people with stock cars are worth less than the ones with heavily modded cars, and that no one should even bother listening to what they have to say?
Don't forget, recent rim size poll showed that more than half of forum members have STOCK 15" rims.

Not an Aussie, but a Canuck. Heres the retailer list for blackout tape. Maybe you have one of these guys in Aus.

Your car looks awesome, no doubt.
But the chrome in Jon K's signature pic is also awesome.
Still can't decide :(
Maybe I'll just black-out one side... ;)
