I need help. I purchased a M-tec sterring-wheel off ebay that said it fits E34, but when I went to change the steering-wheel the steering-wheel didn't fit. The hole on the steering wheel was smaller. What can I do to make it fit. Do I change the Steering column? And if so, which one do I use? A M3? I have a 1991 M5. I want to chnage the plain steering wheel into the Mtec Steering-wheel. The guy i purchased the wheel from in Germany says it did fit.

Please post a pic when you've got it on. Would love to see it!

ditto

you probably have the steering wheel from the later 5 series that requires a bolt through it, where as the early 5 series required a 22mm nut

you could change your steering column but would be better selling the wheel and buying the correct one

consider yourself lucky, i bought the m3 wheel off ebay to find that my steering column is too old. But i just sold it for a profit of $40 back on ebay so i guess it was a good investment :D

Yikes, your car has the 22mm nut which is the older design. I think the German fellow certainly did not understand the fitment difference for US model cars.

Your small wheel will fit E34 from 92-96, I believe it uses an 18 mm bolt. Yeah, smaller hole. Sell it!.

Also the 22mm nut is designed to be a one time use item and is supposed to be replaced if it is removed. Good luck.
