Recently I've noticed that after about 30-40 minutes of driving (1995 525i), my 2nd to 3rd gear shifts are "slow" under light/normal throttle with a slight "bump" at the end. For some reason it seems more noticeable after turning a corner. Also - it doesn't seem to happen in S mode or with heavy throttle. I assume it has something with the transmission fluid tempurature. Fluid/filter was changed 10,000 miles ago ( Mobil 1 ) when I purchased it and now there is about 107k on the odometer. Old fluid looked fine. Any thoughts/recommendations?

incorrect , too low or the seal where the filter attaches is sucking air.. when you turn corners the fluid all sloshes to one side and if the level is low or the seal leaking then it sucks air and the bump you notice is slippage then suddenly banging in.... The fluid level and temperature is critical when checking these, its easy to get it wrong if you don't pay attention to the fluid temp

On my car, the 1-2 shift is often hard when on light throttle. It feels like something is winding up then suddenly letting go (torque converter?), putting the car into 2nd with a bit of a thump. There are no bad noises. It just feels less smooth than I think it should be.
It doesn't bother me much, and only happens on a light throttle, but I do wonder what it is and if it's a sign of bad things to come.

Mine responds the same and seems to be related to the shifter adjustment. If I pull the shifter back (towards lower gears) the problem goes away. If I jiggle it forward abit it comes back. Might be worth a try you maybe lucky and just need adjustment.

Its probably low fluid. Mine has been leaking, but today i bought 3 quarts of valvoline dexron3/mercon (i hope its the right kind) and ordered a filter/seal kit for $21.95.

I am having the same problem mate, and I have been told about the selonoids in the gear box. A guy in Oz took it to a specialist and he changed the selonoid that is responsible for the 2 to 3rd gear shift. Once done, he had a purring tiger, as he called it. if you do this, let me know how you go on, cheers and good luck

A reset might be worth a try.

Had fluid and filter changed again. From what I can tell ( only had time for a quick test drive ) - the symptoms are at least much better if not gone completely. Thanks -
