actiually i am in the process of building a m20 that will be close to the same power as a s52, ill be a little down on power by time the smoke has cleared ill be around 220, s52 is 240. i think the e30 is lighter but the more modern car has a close ratio tranny

.....to be able to have the time, place, access to "projects", and the knowledge to play with things like that. My '95 525ia has the M50tu. When was the last year that BMW used that engine....or is it still used in new 525's?

this is us cars in general too many euro versions to go through

91 was the 1st year of the m50, non vanos, big lumpy cams, no knock sensors, double valve springs, a fun motor nice power surge when on the cam

93 was the technical upgrade "tu" m50, single stage intake cam timing advance, smaller cams, less compression, knock sensors, air mass sensor

96 m52 (328/528) same motor from the outside but with a 1/2" longer stroke same bore, not sure about the specs on the cams but the heads the same

i don't know much about the m54 besides double vanos and aluiminum block

I always wondered what the 3/528s were all about. So the E39 525's were the M54s and the last of the M50tu's were in '95 I guess(?).

I ride in those things with students on track days. Loooooota car. Very scary with novice drivers. Very very tricky, expecially in the wet with DSP off. Swap ends on ya faster than you can sneeze.

that's one of the reasons i like my e30 so much, it almost has enough power to do whatever you want with the rear end, that saved me one day when some ******* was about to t-bone me after running a stop sign, i caught him out of the corner of my eye lit em up and walked the rear end around the front of his car

I always notice my M50-non vanos runs lumpier than my friends with '93 M50tu... I guess it wasn't pyschological?
