My left low-beam (outer) headlight went out a few days ago, so i decided to take the bulb out to see if it was really burnt out. It was broken. My brother suggested that the water inside the headlight spalshed up on the hot bulb and caused thermal shockwhich broke the bulb. As you can see, there is quite alot of water in the headlight: http://servo.postverket.us/alex/headlight.JPG
My question is, where can i buy a new headlight lens and how would i install it? I would also like to hear about other options (if there are any).
Now if only e34s had sealed beam headlights, then i could just go to the store and by one off the shelf for $6; thats certainly a plus for the e28 :D

Good point, does anyone have any idea what a lens might cost at the dealer?

Shucks, the E30/E28/24/23/21/12 sealed beams suck terribly, man. I'd take ellipsoids over them any day.
It may be easier to just replace the entire bucket assembly, I'm not sure. The adjustment screws tend to fuse/rust, plastic parts crack and shatter.
best, whit

The entire bucket assembly costs significantly more than just a lens, and since this is on my parent's dollar i would like to find the most cost effective solution.

If it were about two months from now, I'd sell you my whole HID setup for ~ $300. which would include depo euro spec projectors with lamin-x and a xtec hid kit with h1 based bulbs.
Anyways...Good luck baking with the new lense. US spec projectors can usually be had for a very reasonable price. I sold mine for $80 shipped.
