E34 520i 24V cold engine knocking sound

my '91 520i 24V engine makes really bad knocking sound when started in the morning. I think it comes from the head and it last for about 3-4 minutes, after I have no problem all day long ... until next morning. Except this annoying problem everything is just perfect.

This might be a sign of a VERY serious problem! Don't use your car until you can have it checked! Ideally, have it brought to the shop, not driven there... hire a flatbed or something! You might regret it if it does more damage to the engine!
