View Full Version : Good deal on '87 535is engine & trans . . .
I ran across this while surfing "the bay" (no affiliation)

Would make a good start for a 5-spd conversion or replacement trans or engine block. Should be the same Getrag 260/6 that's in an e34 535i. ETK shows the 260/6 5-spd from 09/85 on up.
Downside is the seller won't ship.

Yea, that's the same one. $150 no reserve & no bids at the moment, 4 days to go. In my younger days a roadtrip would be in order for sure but anymore, it's a bit far.
ps: OT -- my son got his "repaired" Xbox 360 back today & it's still broken :D so we have to wait thru all the 1-800 wade-thru-all-the-menu-choices-get-put-on-hold BS to get another RMA number -- he's a bit pissed to say the least. Bill Gates really pulled a fast one.

I emailed that guy a few days ago to tell him that it couldnt've come from a '90 and that he'd probably have a disappointed buyer on his hands if it sold that way...
If the Bellevue Crowd's assertions are correct (I'm not sure, I've never tried to stick a non E34 260 into an E34): the problem with the non E34 Getrag 260 versus the same sourced from another model is the difference in the tailshaft. Trust me when I say that it's not cost effective for a DIYer to swap components. In fact, it's easier to just find the correct trans. A custom driveshaft is a possibility, but...
Late E28 535s came with the 265, a much better trans on all accounts. Might as well just get one of those and have a driveshaft fabricated.
