Hi all,
I 've just bught a 1993 5.20i SE , there is a problem with its milage display and that is that it does not show the numbers corrctle. for e.g 140000 wil be displayed as "lh0. .". I think its something to do with the lcd display , I ve heared / seen on other forums that probably resetting the computer can solve the problem ??
DOn't know anything about it and how to do it , any suggestions.
Thanks
Yahya

Usually if the bulbs behind that are blown, you will not see anything.
But if you see such funny things like lh0..., that could be a defective LCD.
New they are quite expensive. But you can buy a complete cluster for much less money.
If you want to keep your mileage, swop the old EPROM into the new used cluster. or just buy another defective cluster and swop the LCD only.
Ask the chaps here on the U.K. 7 series board, they can help you where to buy, even if you do not have a 7. Many parts of the E34 and E32 are interchangeable, so ask there on the E32 board.
I assume you are from the U.K., as you talk about a 520i SE.

Buy a cluster with the same backplate color, old ones are grey, yours should be blue. In between was a white backplate.
How to disassemble

The lights behind my gear selector lcd and mileage display are burnt out. I can sitll see the displays, they are just very dim without a backlight.

You'll find an endless supply of possible problems/fixes in the search area. Good luck with it. I'm tackling mine next year.
