View Full Version : e34 worth $4000

I need examples of an e34 worth 4k. I'm trying to beat my seller down and I need some ammunition before going in there tomorrow.
bimmerd00d drove it yesterday and gave me some ideas and also told me its not worth the 4k I was gonna try to pay for it. It has the brake linings message on the obc, the obc wasn't bright enough to see the mileage, it has minor suspension problems (which is evidence of the necessity of replacement can you say sachs sporting :) : :) ), the clutch was strong and good, but bimmerd00d said the shifter linkage was bad. The engine was all there. It was clean on the outside and revved well and ran well. Cosmetically, the interior is alright, not close to perfect, but definitely respectable. It needs floormats, and good vacuuming, the gauges are all hanging out a bit, and some minor cigarette burns on the interior. What do you guys think its worth? I was considering offering him $2900 cash, we already have a $250 deposit on it.

Good mileage for 89...if you like the way it looks...4K not bad...course I'd offer 3K and see if he takes it....may be buyers market..most people shy away from old BMW's with 160K miles.

The paint is in good shape, the clutch was changed, its very fast. I really like it and he might use that against me since he knows I wont walk away. :(

I would pay what I paid for mine for it, $3,100 CDN, maybe a little more.
Sure it needs some work but hell man its old :D. My car needs work and still does even though I am dropping just about every penny I can into it. Its all in the fun of owning it. One day when you got everything fixed up and have spent too much money on it, you will be able to think to yourself, god damn that was worth it, driving down the street doing 100mph, can't hear a single problemw ith th ecar and it reacts on a dime.
Its worth it, if you offer him 2,900 and settle on aroudn 3,400, I would call it a day and take it.

250 deposit pretty much guarrantees that you already decided on the price, I doubt you can do anything besides walk away without your deposit at this point.

I paid $3900 for my 94 540i with 220k miles. It needed thrust arm bushings, thermostat housing, some generally cleaning and maintenance, and paint work.
Lots o' money spent on it since then... so keep that in mind. I've probably spent almost 3 grand on goodies and repairs since I bought it.

I tend to agree with Regal. He's got you by the nuts but don't give up. If he's stubborn with price you could threaten to walk without your deposit. I couldn't imagine that there would be a stack of people lining up for a 16 year old manual 5 series BMW. Except us nuts of course! I'd bet he'd be calling you within the day.

I was able to get this car for $4500. It has 133K miles on it. Clean interior and exterior. Had some service history records from PO but not complete. Has short shifter installed, Kenwood HU and 17 inch type II AC Schnitzer with new Continental ContiExtreme Contact tires. I got this from a used car dealership. The only thing missing for this car was the amp was taken out by previous owner. I can easily hookup one since he left all the wiring harness in the trunk. Also the right highbeam headlight has a crack and needs a new bulb and the rear left passenger window needs a window regulator since sometimes it has difficulty going up. Other than that everything on the car is working fine.
I think you are paying too much for your car. Haggle the price down .

Likewise. If you've already paid the deposit that amounts to accepting the terms of the deal. You can try and bring him down by beginning to express doubts and see if he offers to drop his price for fear of you walking, but, be prepared to lose your deposit if you do walk away.

gj1968 now I consider that a steal. Misfortune (no pun intended) I would continue to haggle the price and if he balks, chalk up your losses and book a flight to Utah. Kent I'm coming baby, get it it ready.
LOL,
