Backlit climate control dials?

Hi guys, as some of you know I got my e34 last week so I'm still figuring out how everything works. I'd like to know if the climate control dials (the 3 dials) are supposed to be backlit? I can't make out the temperature readings at night, I was thinking maybe the bulb was burnt as it would seem a bit silly to leave this area of the dash unlit. Is it lit at all?

I had the same question. I thought a bulb was burnt, but one night while I was tapping on the dash to get the gear selector lever backlit poof - they came on! Must be a loose connection because they're intermittent. Good luck with yours.

Must be a common problem, mine is the same way. I assumed it to be a goofy design.
