I recently came across a deal that I felt like I couldn't really pass up. I was able to buy a set of M3 10 spoke rims with practically brand new tires (1500 miles) for $650. I'm told that they will fit my 89 525I as long as I use 15mm or 20mm hubcentric spacers. Is this a good deal?

I think the rims look good, look very close to the m5 wheels.
I am just not a fan of spacers.
I hope it works out,and I bet they will look great.
If they are truly OEM, that was a decent price.
Yes, you will need more than 20mm spacer in the front. M3 uses 47mm offset and E34 use 20mm or less. As far as rear, you probably don't need anything. M3 has 26 or 25, e34 use about the same offset.
In my opinion, the M3 wheels (and the chrome!) make the e34 too 'busy' looking. Doesn't really fit the style unless it's outrageously dropped and kitted. Of course, a good deal is a good deal :)

Didn't think they looked too bad. I had 25mm spacers on the front, and nothing on the back. Never had any problems with them.

I think they look nice, and it sounds like a good deal, especially if they are decent tires. They are (imo) some of the more tasteful tires that exist, but my favorite wheels are kind that sdwhitney has :) The 530im that originally drew me into e34s had those wheels in 17'', are they m-parallels? Anyways, it sounds like a good deal to me.

What Jon said.
Sell them and you can (if they're OEM) at least double your money. Advertise them in the Roundel or local CCA newsletter as a set of track rims or replacement rims.

Thanks for the input and all the advice. I sold the rims & tires for $950 ($300 more than I paid for them). So tell me, what can I get for $950 rims and tires? I would really like to get a set of 17's.
Yum! What about these!
Hmmmm... I wonder if they'll fit...

Definitely agree but yum! Unfortunately it looks like it protrudes and is prone to curb rash... reminds me of the the wheels on my B5 Passat... horrible rashes/rocks.

I've always been a fan of the 19" wheels. Some may say roller skates, but it can be pulled off nicely.

My ride quality dropped when going from 15" to 17".
And that was with lightweight geniune T-Stars.
With heavy 19's I hope you have smooth roads!

For a while on my 525 last year I had a set of 18's, but the ride quality was still pretty good. My suspension was Eibach springs and sways, and Koni's. There were a few other things in there. But it was really sweet, no rubbing or anything. Ride quality didn't feel sacraficed. I think 19's wouldve been sweet. I rode in this dudes '92 525 that had 20's on it once. What a moron. His whole front end was ****ed up in like a month.

If you were shopping for some shoes, would you ask people on a message board what to buy? Go and look at as many pictures of e34's with different rims, then choose for yourself. I'm sure you will find something that YOU like, then buy them. We all love these cars, and we all have different tastes. YOU will be driving the car everyday though, so go with you're own style and make the car a reflection of YOU.

I understand what you are saying. What I was looking for was an idea of the style of rims and tires that can be had for around $950. Ultimately, the choice will be mine and mine alone. However, this doesn't preclude input on what type of product I can expect to get for the money I intend to spend. Thanks again.
