(Poor picture of) Valves with a nice coating. #5 is the problem cylinder and has considerably more 'crust'

Anyhow, glad I took on the project, more to come....including questions like:
Where does this go? :)

What is your original plan?

Looks like a lot of oil was getting into that cylinder. I would check the valve guides for excessive play.

Background:
Bottom end has ½ mill kms on it. Head rebuilt <50,000km ago. Compression test shows extremely low comp in Cylinder #5 (1/2 of all others, also I think the one you’re looking at Jeff). Cylinder ‘passes’ wet test, therefore made the executive decision to ‘rebuild’ the bottom end. Found a used block fairly cheap, had the bearings and rings done, which brings us to this point.
Question. While I wasn’t planning on doing anything to the head, I may reconsider if folks here (jeff) feel it necessary.
Any input appreciated,
Dave M

If your rebilding the whole engine you have to replace the valve seals and cleam em up a bit aswell. your going through too much trouble not to be thourogh.
