How 'bout this?

This one I have now looks like that first pic, but with a single LCD instead of the double dot matrix LED display. I don't intend to use a CD changer. I do want a cassette player. Will either of these hook right up to the stock wiring?

Jay - See if you can email Don Gale... he has an E36 or E46-ish M3 radio head unit in his E32. Seemed to know a lot about making that kind of thing work. My guess is that you might have to fudge the cable connect but you can probably get all the functionality out of it.

The first one should be plug n play. I see these in lots of E34's. Not sure about the second one.
Make sure you get the code for the radio (4 digit security code)
Oh, and if you need one, I have 2 of the first kind- guaranteed to work in a stock E34, with code.... :)

neither will be plug and play with a 90 and older e32/34, if your stocker don't look like the first one you have the old style system, it can be made to work but you need a plug with a 6" piece of harness and a diagram to hook it up, also need to figure out a adaptor for the antenna
i see after rereading you said it looks like yours except for one of the display windows, the first should plug in fine but i think they changed the position of a few of the wires in the plug on the later ones like the 2nd pic. if that radio came stock you may have a 91 or atleast a real late 90
