It seemed pretty simple..................but it's not. I'm trying to remove the 13 mm drain plug that is on the exhaust side of the engine, but cannot get access to it. A ratchet and socket (universal etc.) is too big due to exhaust manifold interference, and my box end 13 mm wrench is too short to allow for enough torque, or to obtain a sufficient grip. Any ideas, is there a tool suggestion that will make this task easier? Please don't tell me that I have to loosen or remove the exhaust manifold. :(

... box wrench with breaker bar? As in, use an 18-24" length of metal pipe on the end of your wrench for better leverage. You might also consider investing in a torque wrench when it's time to put the plug back in; sounds like it might have been overtightened by the last guy...

A 3/8" socket + swivel (or combo) and an extension.
If you think the M50 is bad, try a V8, or even better (my favorite) -- the M54 :)
Use a new crush washer, be sure to remove the old one -- sometimes from the block, usually from the bolt.
best, whit
