535i vs 530i would be very interesting indeed. The 535i has 208hp @ 5700rpm and 225ft lbs of torque @ 4000rpm, whereas the 530i has 215 horsepower @ 5800rpm and 214ft lbs of torque @ 4500rpm. While the 535i has 7 fewer horsepower, it makes up for that by having 11 more ft/lbs of torque, and getting its power at a lower rpm. Even just a chip might be enough to tip the odds in the 530i's favor though...

not speculation, i dragged the boss one day when he was in a varly nice 95 530 with a 40k mile alu short block, at a hundred plus he was still loosing ground, wasn't even close and i think that was before i had the eat chip, i did it two days in a row on the way to work:D
