when I bought it I had to go order a new 3 button keyfob for remote lock/unlock (which has some intermittent performance issues... like taking 25 seconds to want to remotely lock).

I'm wondering if all E34's are equipped with an alarm? and if so, has mine been deactivated? or is it dead?

there would be a box under the back seat if it had an alarm, not all came with an alarm but it's possible since you have remote locking

I also have a '94 540i that came with a remote key fob when I got the car used... it too has seemed to have "intermittent performance issues," and probably 1 out of 5 times I end up resorting to sticking the key into the lock and turning old-fashioned style. For this reason I never press lock twice to turn the alarm system on, fearing that one of these times I won't be unable to unlock with the remote fob. And yes, my alarm works if I lock twice with the fob and unlock with a key (as opposed to unlocking with a fob that is refusing to work). Do you or anyone else know how to fix the intermittent perforance issue... maybe just a new battery? And where would I get that?
