Everything is off, BUT, the pump doesn't want to come off. The large gear on the front of the motor seems to be fouling removal. Don't have a Bentley's, I know I will get one, but how do I get the pump out? Do I have to remove those pullys & gear?

TIA

Welcome Mark,

By Everything I assume you mean that you've drained the rad, removed the hoses from the thermostat housing, removed the thermostat housing, removed the the belt, removed the water pump pulley and the four 10mm nuts that hold the pump to the block.

The trick to getting the pump off is to thread two M6 bolts into the holes on each side of the pump. These bolts will push the pump off. The rubber O-ring makes it difficult to pull the pump off by hand.

Good Luck, drop us a line if i didn't make any sense,

Dave M

Dave - Thanks for the welcome & the help. Yes, almost all of the above is done. I can't get the fan clutch off, I think the water pump is broken? I cant seem to hold the pully to get the nut loose. But all the rest is done & the pump is loose, I can rattle it around, it just won't come out, that gear seems to be stopping it.

Just back from the dealer where they only had plastic impeller pumps.

Will have some lunch & have at it again.

Do I need to remove the water pump mounting studs?

OK then, lunch did it. fan clutch off, water pump out... and it appears to be good, and has the metal impeller, so it's going back in, the new, plastic one can go back on the dealer's shelf. A new thermostat is going in & we'll see how she bleeds.

Is there a reccomended anti-freeze, other than BMW's own?

Dave - Thanks for the help & encouragement.

Didn't we have a discussion once about how the distilled water leaches the metal?
