VIN Confusion.

Alright, so somebody posted a link for a free VIN lookup, which struck my curiosity. I copied down my VIN and came inside to check it out, well it appears the site no longer works. I did a forum search and came across http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi This site says my car was manufactured in 11/1992 and that I have an M50B25 which from what I’ve read....is the non vanos engine? Now when I did my cam chain I know for a fact I inspected the vanos hydraulic unit...any ideas? Thanks

Is the VIN from the car's VIN plate or from your registration?
Different numbers/typo?
Can you give us the last 7 numbers of the VIN?

9/92 was the M50TU introduction date on the E34. So an 11/92 car will have vanos.

well lowell seems to have cleared up my question, I just don't know why the VIN wouldn't report the correct engine, my VIN is WBAH0631XPBJ86771* If somebody wanted to run a carfax for me that would be great :)
