Hi all. Series of resoundingly stupid questions regarding my 1995 525i that I just purchased sans owner's manual -
1. How do you play a CD? There is a 6 disc changer in the back. Can't figure out which buttons to push on the radio console to get to the darn CDs.
2. Where is the battery?
3. What is the sliding switch with "A" and "M" next to the auto transmission shifter?
Anyone know where I can find a duplicate owner's manual for this vehicle without having to go to the stealership? Thanks!
Wow! Welcome! I'll start...

You press the " Band" button. I think the order is FM FM2 AM Cd, you will use the 1 - 6 keys to select the cd
2. Where is the battery?
It's under the rear seat... left side of the car (passanger side if you are in the states)
3. What is the sliding switch with "A" and "M" next to the auto transmission shifter?
That switch changes for Automatic to Manual.. the Manual (or sports shift) sucks... In Manual mode you will have the change the shifter from 1 to 3rd... Just about the only use of it is... if you are going to fast through the twistlys and don't want the car to shift on you.... or to get unstuck... (3rd gear manual + traction control off)
I have a warm spot in my heart of 95 525is ... tell us more about the car

First, I typo'd. It's a '94 525i - probably not that much different from a '95. I can't get CD to come up by pushing the band button on the radio. Never checked it out during the test drive b/c I didn't have a CD with me. Must be busted or wires loose. Have to check it out in the daylight.
'94 525i -
Black
White leather interior
Automatic tranny
Radio (at least) w/ 6 CD changer
103k miles
Only paid $5,300 - seemed like a decent deal

Couple of more questions:
How do you check the auto trans fluid level? I don't see a dipstick anywhere. I crawled underneath and found that the tranny is made in Strasbourg, France - no wonder it doesn't have a dipstick ;-)
What's your advice on the busted 6 cd changer? Ebay? Seems like a new one would be ridicuolously expensive.
I also noticed on looking around underneath that there are some cracks in the flex disc around the bolt holes. At what point do you normally replace the flex disc? How big of a job is it?
To be clear - this is a '94 525i, M50 motor, E34 body style. Thanks again for the help.

if there are visable cracks its time to replace the guibo.
the trans is checked from under the car with it running level in the air with the trans at about 95 degrees.
is the CD player getting power?

Yes, CD is getting power. The magazine loads and unloads, and it makes noises when the key is turned on. So either there's a problem with the electronics or cable between radio and changer or with the radio or any combination thereof. Narrows it down, doesn't it?
Has anyone done a flex disc? How hard is it?
