Air Compressor Harbor F US Gen 60g $379 with 12.85 cfm @ 90 psi is a lot of specs for the $. For light use, will the US Gen hold up or should I try to find a used 60 gal unit.

How to tell if used unit is good?

The 30/33 gal systems don't have power to run many air tools and sprayers. Biggest advantage of the 30 gal units seems to be 115v, portability, and the Sears package deal @ $329 of air tools with modest power but compatability with output of the 33 gal system.

links? The pump is the important factor, tank size is not really relivant. My pump is about 13.5 at 90psi and the tank looks to be 30-35. I can run anything including sand blasting and painting.

I dont' think they have it online, but in the sears tool catalog they have a chart of what compressors can handle, there's a star system. The 30 gallon one mentioned, is like a 6 star, which means it can handle any tool. The only thing it cant do is multiple of certain tools at the same time. Having a 115/120v is better for home use unless your house can handle the 230v ones.

Gee... what exactly are you running? I can't imagine anything past a 30 gallon for home use. Only a shop would need something like 60 gallon... If your pump are not running for 50% of the time in use... 30 minutes on the hour... it is enough.

the big tanks take forever to fill so to me id prefer a quick fill cause when I want my air I want it now! Mine eventually leaks back out after a few days through its regulator or something.

If you're looking for more than about 4-5 cfm @ 90psi you're essentially going to have to rule out 120VAC units. They will draw too much current for a typical 20A/12GA branch circuit.

About large tanks: whether this works for you depends a lot on the on-off setpoints of the pressure switch. On HF's cheaper compressors, the unadjustable on-point is somewhere around 70 psi, so that if you have a large tank, it's going to spend a lot of time below 90 psi before the compressor restarts. It's possible they do this to make it easier to start the compressor without complex load-reduction mechanics. Whatever you buy, make SURE that you can set the low pressure limit switch to something higher than about 95psi.

Our tank is i think 60 gallons, but the pump is able to do 120+ psi.


Also, be sure to empty your tank frequently with the purge on the bottom and let the water out. **** will rust like whoa.

Jeff, your setup sounds like what we all need. Who is the manufacturer? Age?

Other comments on tank size and low pressure restart set point noted. More to this compressor choice than I realized.
