Ed is taking care of the “stuff” aspect for the winners and I am taking it upon myself to handle the acclaim aspect. The cars that won are nice but the winners also won because of their stories. I am going to tell the stories of their relationships with their cars that newer members might not know.

I secretly suspect that Jon has planned the entire last year his strategy for winning the virtual car show. Inspired by JR’s thorough trouncing of everyone in last years virtual car show, Jon decided his car was going to be the best this year and he did it. Jon left everyone else in the dust with his winning total of 36 votes. And no one doubts for a minute that he deserved it.
Jon has more modifications to his car than any of us can count. Can you say the word custom? Jon’s car is repainted a custom color—a vw/bmw metallic green mix. He has a custom Alcantara interior that he and his seamstress mom did personally. He has a supercharger under the hood and an intercooler (whatever that is). An of course every car needs a custom CarPC with 120GB hard drive and 1GB Memory.
Jon was the first to post his entry to the virtual car show on September 17. He did not rest on his laurels after that. He continued to work on his supercharger and shared with us stories of going out for test drives up the street in his pajamas. Ideas of additional modifications popped into his head, so he shared with us the details of the megasquirt system he built between semesters. And when he is not working on his car, he does stuff to his sister’s e34 and the cars of friends.
And Jon did all his modifications on a student’s time and money budget. How does he do it? All the links to the early pictures of Jon’s car are broken, so no before and after pictures. Jon, was your car ever really stock? And you know, it doesn't hurt that Jon has such fabulous photography skills to showcase this truly one of a kind car.

It is not really clear whether beautiful cars find Brodee, or Brodee finds beautiful cars, but he has a fleet to envy. I think Brodee was put on earth to find really awesome cars and then inch them along to perfection with tasteful and subtle modifications. I have seen Brodee locate awesome cars for other people too. If anything ever happens to my car, I plan to enlist Brodee in finding me a replacement because nobody shops for bmws like Brodee.
Brodee is a smart man. He understands if he keeps his lovely wife happy in her own cream puff bmw, she will tolerate his bmw habit. Brodee’s wife has the most beautiful e34 touring on earth. I don’t know if her car was the first bmw that Brodee dressed up, but he developed a following for his abilities on this board by sharing his mods to the touring. Last summer Brodee bought the 525im and quickly made a good looking car a great looking car. Here are the before and after. Isn’t the skirt just stunning?
Brodee came in second with 16 votes.

Josh bad mouths his car a lot. When he first got it, he called it the ugly duckling. Then he started calling it the turtle because it is so slow. Josh—it is time to start calling it something like the sexy beast because that is what your car is now.
Josh is everyone’s younger brother on this board. He is always humble and always gets our input and advice on repairs and modifications. We all feel like his car is our car, so when his car became a swan we were all proud. Josh is also a student and does not have tons of money to make modifications, but he saved his pennies and bought the most beautiful wheels on earth. He kept us all in suspense with an announcement that they were coming and made it a surprise what he had selected. It was sort of like waiting for the next movie in a series to be released with all the attendant opening day hype. It was fun.
Josh. Thank you for making us feel so involved in your car. We are all happy that you won third place with 13 votes.

Josh--you also deserve a special award for best artistry in an e34 photograph. I know you had a friend take them but it does not take away from what goregous photographs these are.

For the record, it is Jr (prō-nounced....... jā-ăr') not junior.
When I first became a member of this forum, I kept hearing half joking, half envious remarks about the silver M5 that kicked everyone’s arse in last years virtual car show. People made nasty aspersions about what the owner had to do to win. Ever curious, I searched the archives to find this tribute to Jr's car on its 14th birthday written by witty wordsmith Brian C.
....in "people year" terms, 1 BMW year should equal about 3-4 people years. If you figure that a person is....ahem....hopefully rather well seasoned, experienced, and at a prime spot in their chronological development if they are about 45 or so, then a car that has lasted in today's world to the ripe old age of 14 is certainly a survivor at the very least. And a car that has become a coveted example of it's model certainly should be ranked up there with the "hotties" of the human type too.
Demi Moore, Teri Hatcher, Kim Cattrall, Pierce Brosnan, Denzel Washington, Patrick Swayze....all are well into their 40's and are still considered prime eye-candy by most star-watchers. If Stutz Bearcats and Dusenbergs and the like can make their way up the auction blocks of today and command ridiculous cash for the privilege of their ownership, then I can certainly imagine that M5 of yours getting top dollar in a decade or two also.
Jr’s M5 is automotive perfection. It did have a nasty interaction with a deer, but in the long run only came out better for the experience.

Because Jr so handily won last year’s virtual car show, it was decided in advance that he would only compete with himself this year and we would just have a coronation for him this year. That is why Jr’s 23 votes did not win him second place. You can only have one term as king of the board.

I understand that I tied with Winfred for 4th place (honorable mention) with 10 votes because of who I am, not because of my car.
Yes, my car is pretty tricked out for a chick’s car, but I have not done a single improvement to it since I bought it last June. Buying the car was the improvement.
I inherited a 90 525im with 200,000 miles that had belonged to my husband and which had not received sufficient loving. In reading this board, I found an almost identical in appearance 90 535im with 82,000 miles and every modification I could possibly want already done (Dinan chip, Bilstein sports w H&R, RD sways, RD strut brace, 750 bushings, Zimmermans & MetalMasters, O.E. M Parallels staggered).
The before car on the left--The after car on the right

I brought my new baby from the east coast to the west coast and photographed her in front of every tourist attraction between there and here.

I have been hanging our here and making smart remarks ever since. Now I am just one of the guys—right?

I do have some mods planned for this year though. My eisenmann muffler is in the mail and I have a few other things up my sleeve. If I want to be a finalist next year, I might actually have to do something to my car instead of just relying on my charm. :D And I bought a better camera so look for better pictures in the future.

If there was a contest to decide who on bimmer.info reposts the funniest videos and the most humorous pictures to be found on the internet, Winfred would win hands down. Why should we expect any different for the virtual car show?
The rest of us were waxing our cars and waiting for perfect weather to photograph them in, but not Winfred. Winfred's joke picture got 10 votes and critical acclaim for an action shot and excellent photo-journalism.
It should be noted that a strange thing happened after this winning picture was taken. Winfred’s e34 morph into an ugly, smell diesel truck.

Gayle, thank-you for the summery of the show and the detailed description of the history of this years Virtual E34 Car Show, nice job.
You are truly, the Official Board Sweetheart. Filling a position that has been void for many years. Not many women last too long around here. Your love of the marque, and the board, has proved unparalled along with the many things you bring to the table to help with the administration of this board. I appreciate your insight and intuition. We've needed something like this for a long time. Just wanted you to know that you and your talents are very much appreciated around these parts...
Tip for next years show, take a shot of you IN the car.... nekked....;) ok, bikini clad.. You will win for sure! ;)
Congratulations to this years winner. Jon's car is a work of art, and it's still in progress. His photographic skills along with a "one of a kind" E34 has earned him top kudos in the E34 world. Congratulations Jon on an E34 well done. It's too bad BMW didn't consult you when they were picking out the factory green color for the E34 model. Lovely car indeed.
Kudos to Brodee, and Josh for 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Brodee's excellent taste shows through in the Alpine White E34 with just the right amount of lowering and those AC wheels. Shows just how timeless these models really are, with just some subtle mods. Congratulations Brodee!
Josh's photos are second to none however, as the photography skills of his friend show just how photogenic the E34 really is, just how can you go wrong with the subject matter? Beautiful shots Josh, your car looks gorgeous.
Winfred deserves more than an honorable mention, and you have to look past the photos to see what is meant by that. Winfred gives freely of his knowledge to the board to help others. This is an attribute that sets this board apart from other message boards. Members like winfred, that know their stuff! For all you do winfred, this board's for you.:D
Finally, thanks to all the participants of this years Virtual E34 Car Show, there was many awesome pictures and awesome BMW's this year.
The E34 Virtual Car Show would not be possible without our Ed. We want to THANK-YOU for hosting and sponsoring the board's annual car show. We do appreciate your hard work and dedication in providing the board for us.
Thanks again Ed, for another successful car show, the Ben Hur edition....:D
Now let's see how many of you can make it to Chicago this year when we have our annual show for real....Brandon has secured our grove in the park, and promises it to be the "biggest E34 show in the world". Take a long weekend, or a weeks vacation, drive a few hundred miles or drive across country. Meet people that make this board happen. It will be an event to remember. Remember, it can't happen without YOU!
See you there!

Thanks to all those that voted for all the cars and special thanks to Gayle for her great write-ups, very nice.
Reading all this makes me almost wish I hadn't sold the 525, but the new 540 and even newer e30 M3 will be the latest projects so the fun goes on.

Stop it Brodee, you're giving me project fever!!! Looks like a nice find, what do you have in mind for it? The engine and interior look as nice as the body? I looked at a one owner, red with a tore to hell interior for 4k last fall, but with 198k miles and large rust bubbles, I didn't feel like plopping another 10 grand into it.
Good luck, it looks like a nice find. I'm sure you'll have it looking sweet in no time.

Thanks! I gave a little less than that for the car. The head is off the engine (hence the trailer) but has a fresh valve job just waiting to be put back together. I also got new oil pump, water pump, gasket sets, rings, etc., everything to do a full rebuild on the motor.
Came with 6 RD wheels, 4 redone and on the car now, spare lsd diff, 2.5 header and some other goodies like in the box H&R springs and Billstein shocks.
Interior is cardinal and isn't too bad but driver's seat is toast. I did source a new one though and hope to get it in there soon.
It's going to be my new track rat to replace the 325is I sold. I have a set of new K1's with Hoosiers sitting in my office waiting to go on it too :)
