View Full Version : M30 Head Inspection.

I have the head off of the M30 engine I pulled and found it had a cracked block. The person before me did a head gasket repair and cracked the bolt holes in the block. I would like to get the head inspected for cracks for a future rebuild. The local machine shop will clean it, check for cracks and warpage and pressure check it for $120.00. To me this sounds like a $120.00 gamble and I would rather put it towards the rebuild. Is there a reliable way I can do some preliminary crack inspection at home. Just because the block was cracked does it mean the head is suspect also?

not necessarily, the block cracked cause whoever did the gasket didnt clean the oil out of the bolt holes and it hydrolocked and cracked around the holes. The block is trash.

Thanks,
Summer project hopefully is to work on this and clean up the intake manifold by drawing a line with the gaskets and grinding the step out where they mate. Also have a spare set of injector I am sending out to get cleaned and tested for replacement. I had a small intake leak at the gasket and did a quick repair so I'd like to at least get The intake and injectors done for when I do the intake gasket replacement.

Thanks again, I will check these out and will probably use the old set as a core if needed.
