Big Snow Fall + 535 + No winter tires = Total uselessness

Yea the bimmer is completely useless in the snow. I know i know its my fault, no winter tires and even takin it out in the snow. i know.

Winter tires are deff my next purchase. all the money i make goes into my car lol. O how i love this car.

Funny. A car is truly like a girl. Considering the Love/Hate relationship :D

For what its worth, I have Blizzaks on my 535i and the car can still be a handful in snow and especially ice. Wish they were studded.

My "ne plus ultra" show tire setup: Nokian Hakkapelitta RSi 235/45R17 on OE M-Tech wheels sans center covers. Great snow and ice trax + smooth and quiet on the dry. Cost C$1200 though...

Yeah, the salt really raises my blood pressure as well. However, it's a small price to pay for living in the land of oil and Hummers.

Driving on snow, it only a bit more fun than driving on tarmac.
Giving gas and sliding arround corners, hunting grip = snowstrings on a icy road. Planning driving to manage steep driveways, a.s.o.

Drove a Audi Ur-Quatro Turbo Avant = 5000CS or ( 200 in europ ) before.
Had no problem in snow exept didnt' notice it was slippery until breaking.

Had a -68 2000tilux "some" years ago with diff-break, had a lot of fun driving on ice racing roads with that and sometimes it went to far out in a bend into the snow.

So snow and ice can bring a lot of fun in driving.
Summer.. riding beemers and transporting with bimmer.

I have those same tires in 205/60/15 on the stock basketweaves. They're great.

My 540 with summer tires is scary, luckily my wife has a 4Runner. With only one snow this year and an average temp of 55 F or so, it hasn't been a worry. Too bad, I love snow.

My 535i w/5spd & limited slip has been excellent in the snow with 4 Blizzaks. Best rear drive winter car & just as good as most of the fwd cars I've owned.

My M30 with LSD and blizzaks is pretty sweet! Before I picked up the tires, after first snowfall, I was horrified about what was to come for winter. I thought I had the shittiest possible snow vehicle. Once I got the tires it's a blast to drive. I hate getting my paint all shitty, but you can easily do controlled drifts and make it almost anywhere!

Actually LSD has been replaced by traction control. So there is an element of sadness in that computers are driving cars - not people.

I just spent 4 hours on the road driving through lake erie effect snow - bimmer did great !

Ditto here.. same ones on my basketweaves... love 'em.. although they are a bit squirelly in the dry compared to non snow tires.. all those sipes give a lot of flexibility to the tread blocks.. but that's what gives it such great traction in the snow/ice.

I can't wait to get my new 18s.

I moved from Edmonton, Alberta to Kelowna, B.C. a couple weeks ago and hit a big snow storm on my way. It started in Banff and was snowing all the way to Kelowna, so about 500km. The roads were icey in some parts, completely covered in snow in some parts and slushy in others with blowing snow all the way. I have the Nokian rsi and traction wasn't an issue at all. Without them I never would have made it through the mountains. Thery paid for themselves on that trip alone. With winter tires these cars are great in the winter, but not quite as fun as my E30 was.

Yep, here in Minnesota the Blizzaks made a HUGE difference in snow. Prior to getting the real snow tires I was considering getting something else to drive in the winter. LSD diffs have a tag down on the diff. with an "S" with the numbers designating it as an LSD diff. Non lsd's have no "S".
