We have just finished the head gasket replacement and I would like to thank you so very much for your assistance .

Especially Bill R, and Winfred plus the help from Bruno's site, Whit Lowell's site and Shogun's gems. Also to be mentioned are Dave M, pundit, Jeff (632 Regal) and Nick (genphreak).

We got everything back in place and finished off over the weekend and so far so good - everything seems OK - touch wood !

The kids and I are thrilled at having achieved what would have been impossible without you guys and of course Bentley !

Ended up replacing camshaft, rockers, valve guides, head gasket (twice :D ), head gasket bolts (twice), radiator, 6 coolant hoses, fan belts, timing belt, rocker cover gasket (twice), spark plugs, assorted gaskets, filters - air & oil as well as having a crack in the head repaired. Water pump and thermostat had been replaced 4,000 km ago.Touch wood that everything keeps on working. :D

For anyone contemplating similar - if we could do it - anyone can do it as long as you have this forum, Bentley and patience.

Yea Zuek, come to Oran, it'd be great to meet up, last time (Eastern Creek Raceway) was a blast and there were only 5 or 6 of us there... :) Nick

o.k., now as you are our forum specialist for the 525, I'll give you another target to improve your tech skills.

You can have one of my spare m70 V12 engines for trial and error :D
Just pick it up here in Japan and show me 3 months later it works in your car :)

i have 2 good and one with a thrown rod v12s at my disposal but no damn manual trannys, if id scored a stick i probably would of stuck one in my e34 and kept it, hell one in the e30 wouldn't be totally out of the question if i could find enough pics of the e30 with a v12 in it to see what kind of fab work was needed, custom throttle bodys a must and a megasquirt system running it

I know this site with an E30 V12
http://www.bmw-power.de/Fahrzeuge/E30_350i_stelze/roberts_350_uebersicht.htm

350 HP in an Alpina engine, manual 6 speed gear from an 850 CSI , the rear suspension parts are said to be from a Z3, as the Z3 is based on many parts of the E30 it says,
Shocks are from the E36, E36 M3 brakes. Brake master cylinder is H31 from E32 750.

dats de one, i am getting real close to doing the m coupe suspension/brakes swap but i haven't decided on the motor yet, bored and stroked m20 or a mildly worked over m30b35, i was all decided on a stroker then i thought about a m30b35 puts out slightly less power then the motor i was planning so a m30 with euro pistons a cam and a chip would be even more fun, but more work, but less money to build, but too tight of a fit for a regular clutch fan...........

Dave M

Actually I would suggest that it is as tough as it looks, but by compartmentalising everything and taking each job slowly we finally managed, and most importantly we now understand how everything comes together and how everything works. What clever little designers those BMW chaps must be !

Thank goodness for all the digital photos we took and all the labels we put on everything, otherwise putting everything back together might have been a nightmare.

I would actually say that full understanding of how many aspects of how the engine functions cannot be realised until you take it apart, but more importantly put it back together again !
