I was curious as to what radar detectors are being used out there.

I use the Passport X50.

Heres a good site on Radar detectors.... after this I decided to save some $$ and bought a Whistler Pro 58 for the GF and for my 2nd detector cause I'm too lazy to transfer between cars I bought a Whistler Pro 73.

Bel now owns passport.... I really wanted to buy the Bel RX 55 but decided to save $$.

Valentine One - two drivers, two hardwired Valentines. I'm thrifty, the value of the Valentine telling me WHERE the radar signal is coming from is well worth the bucks. About the best dollars I've spent on driving - longer lasting than good tires. Haven't spent money on driving school yet, but that's about the only thing that delivers maybe superior bang for the buck. As with driving school, the Valentine's benefits can follow you from car to car.

I put off buying a V1 for a long time, now I don't know why I did. There is a reason eveyone has these, they work and they are well worth the $400. I've been on 2 cross country trips with this thing since I got it and it's saved my butt multiple times.

Does the V1 give off as many false alerts as they say?

you can set them to filter the false signals but I dont. It rarely goes off except at the same spots such as EVERY freaking rite aid drug store.

I surely didnt want to spent that much money but my last detector was I believed to be an excellant one and failed to work one night after a bar in a speed trap area. Spent about 12 valantine 1s to get out of that mess.

I've always wanted a V1, but after doing some research I decided to save $$... for 2 brake jobs, B&B exhaust, flex disc, new headlights & fog lights... etc... I dont really need the arrows as I am very aware and observant that I see everything.

When I get my new detector we'll see if it picks up the CTHP which I swear is using POP since my current one doesnt pickem up, the Whistler Pro 73 seemed very good on all tests, for $175-300 more I didnt think the Passport, V1, & others were worth it, but we'll see..

I just got a brand new Whistler 1788r of Ebay for $100. Its the cordless one.
I bought it because it seems to get really good ratings and it was cheap. I haven't got to really test it out yet though.

im using a Snooper S6-R neo Plus+ in the UK.

Although it’s saved my ass a few times I wouldn’t buy another.

To many false alerts with the optional laser add on. And as its a “neo” with a blue display, you can’t read it whilst wearing shades!

Really wanted a valentine! But there not available over here!

Just bought a lightly used V1 the other day. It's the latest version (v1.8), and in like new condition. First radar detector I've had in about 15 years (anyone remember the Snooper D4000??....). Got it for about 1/2 price of new- the guy I bought it from got it as a gift and was in a serious bind for some rent $$$$. I see these on Ebay for $350-400 (plus shipping)- not sure WTH people are thinking when they pay that much for something like this on Ebay.

I've heard that you can buy "refurbs" from Valentine for about $350- these are usually returned units that they have tested and repaired (if necessary)- I think they are often units that were purchased, used for a long trip, then returned for a refund- nothing wrong with them at all, they carry full warranty.

Get the Laser Shifter - it jams the laser in order to allow you to slow down in time before you release the jam allowing the Cop to read normal speed on you!.. Works great - I never drive without it anymore - JT
