Today, I took the Corvette factory tour in Bowling Green KY. Really neat seeing how the cars are assembled. Nothing is actually manufactured there. They assemble parts only. For example, they get a crate engine and put it. in. However, they do paint all the body parts,
However, almost 1/2 the cars on today's run appeared to be the 505 hp Zo6. It appears that everyone believes the Zo6 is a real bargin. Per the tour is has an aluminum frame, engine has a dry sump with oil tank in the rear. and a 50/50 weight balance. Looks rather good in any color but copper.
Interesting vehicle.

Here are some pics from the last Corvette that was made in the St Louis plant. These were taken in late 1981 - way different car building mentality in an era before a lot of automation. St Louis built all the Corvettes from like 1955-1981.

Oh no! Engineers in plaid! Run!!!!
Well, I suppose they're probably not engineers if they're paiting, but who knows.
Think the little old guy in that last picture is retiring today? Goin out with a bang? :)
They let you take pictures in there this time around?

No cell phones, must have hard toe shoes and safety glasses and most important of all stay on the green walkway and do not touch the cars. Still fun.
No handouts or brochures to take home. Just a chessy postcard. I sort of expected a Corvette brochure or a handout on the more technical aspects of the assembly process. I told them so in writing.

I figured they wouldn't. We're not allowed to have camera phones here at work - no cameras whatsoever.

just took my brother-in-laws 2003 ZO6 for a blast....and holy $hit! was that ever fun. made that e34 M5 I test drove seem lazy (even close to redline). the ZO6 definately isn't as refined as the bimmer ... lots of interior noise ...mega sensation of speed, even at 110 km/h .... felt like a "muscle car", with its big rumbling V8, that handled like a "go-kart".......i want one! ..:D
