OBC Mistery

Was given a 92 525i by a relative. OBC no lights. When I pulled OBC bulbs were 12v 1.2 watts. When I purchased bulbs from BMW dealer was given 6.5v 0.8 watts. Worked fine when installed. My question is. Why different voltage bulbs. Maybe OBC was from different model. Any thoughts? Also given a replacement OBC this also had 12v 1.2 watt bulbs. Have not tried 6.5v bubls but suspect they will work fine.
P.S. the 2nd OBC has part # 65 81 1 389 619. Where can I go to find what model this OBC came from.

I just replaced the bulbs in OBC. DO NOT USE THE 6V BULBS!!! They will burn out very quickly and will melt the sockets in the OBC. Here is the correct part number for the bulbs: 62 11 1 368 299 This is the part number for the 12v ones. They were $.78 at the dealer, and don't let the parts guys convince you to use the 6v ones.

It depends on the OBC type. The OBC III has 4 bulbs and needs 6.5V, the OBC IV needs only 3 bulbs with 12V 1.2W.

The ETK lists/listed the wrong part number for the bulbs for OBC IV. The correct number is: BMW part no. 62111368299

I'll add further confirmation to shogun and E34 530; This June I replaced all 3 of my bulbs in my OBC IV after going through the same confusion as you. Got mine from FCP Euro.
Definitely the same as shogun points out: Sylvania Osram 62111368299;
Once before I put a 6.5v in and it melted a plastic film before I could turn the lights off and remove it.
