bulb power handling

Rear window lights again! I really don't know about auto electrical stuff so here is my question. I think it was Bill R who said that he had sourced lights from a hobby shop. I've also sourced (not yet purchased) some but I'm not sure whether they will work. They can handle 24 volts. Does this mean that the 12v system wont run them or will they work at about half power. I'm not positive but I think the output of the bulbs is about 3w@24v. Any help would be great.
