hi guys, got myself a new problem at a wrong time.
my water pump is on it's way out. squeeling bearing and small coolant leak, spilling on the back of the pulley. now i got 2 quick questions:
1. what's the probability of it not failing completly for 2-3 days, coz it's snowing realy bad and it's realy cold and my garage is full of a w124 MB with it's engine off?
2. part number for the bearing ?
3. is it possible to replace just the bearing or am i in need of a whole new pump?

1) If it is the bearing, who knows when it will puke. Might be an idea to remove the belt and see if it spins freely or it siezed up. Whatever you do, monitor your coolant temp like a halk.

3) May not be worth it (especially since you have the leak). Check your parts supplier and weigh the difference. Factor in your piece of mind in having a new part and forget swappng just the bearing if the impeller is plastic

I think you should do the whole pump. Get a t-stat too. you should be able to do all that for ~$100.

thanks for the input guys,
watching the temp, checked if it moves freely and it does. Bearing siezing is not new to me and i know it can happen suddenly since i had the clutch throw-out bearing sieze and eat away from a good pressure plate :)
I know the bearing+seal vs. new pump ain't realy worth it but it's got a steel impaler and i'm not sure if i can find a new one with it.

call BMA, I read the new pumps with the *plastic* impeller arent really plastic but a composite material which is lighter and also provide better flow than the older metal ones. Please dont confuse this with the old style with a real *plastic* inpeller that fails.
