My First 540i V8, How good is this? Opinions

my first car was a bmw, but then again that was last year I was too slack to buy my own car during university. My dad drives that bmw now.
glad i didn't buy a jap car, i mean jap cars are okay, but a bmw has a bit more its like the way average cars should be made. Not that i really call a 540i an "average" car.

performance wise you might want to get a computer chip and a lower rear end gear, as in details these cars look hotter with a spring and shock kit, lower all around, better handling but if you live in a shitty road region then stock might be the way to go.

thats just my oppinion as such you will get a world of oppinion here.

Alright, you lost some points my admitting you drove "hooked up" hondas, however you are redeeming yourself with the E34 purchase. Now, don't go "hooking" it up. Follow the basic guidelines for tastful modifcations and upgrades (search the forums). You have now entered a whole new arena, where we don't hook up a car (unless it's to a tow truck) but upgrade them. ;)

Once again, welcome. As a former Honda owner, I can say that after I drove my E34 for 1 mile I knew I would never own anything other than BMW for as long as my bank account would allow.

Even when i had my civic it was never riced out.It was clean and jdm.So i think im going to be great in the BMW,i want to do an M5 or Acshnitzer front end and body components..etc Then i want to put in a good system and great suspension, and then much l8er supercharge it

Same car but mine's a 6 speed in black. Just got mine too. I had the same gay wheels you have (I still cant belive BMW put 15's on a car in 1995 :puke: ) . Found some sweet 7 series 16's for just $200 and put new tires on em yesterday. My car now looks just like GT90 s car does above. Looks WAAAAAYYY better and without the sidewall on the 15's, handling imroved 10 fold.

Also, check out Scotts wheels. I REALLY like that look.

Do a search dood. EAT chip, lower it, wheels and body work to your liking. Done. Have fun chasing Corvettes.

Oh, and use 91 octane or better. Ask me how I know... :rolleyes:

Are you running the 17*10's in the back? If so, did you notice a greater amount of understeer after bolting them on?

I was born in '70 and i feel young around here compared to some, so these pups born in '88 freak me out!

If I had 282HP when I was 16, I would be dead.
It should be like motorcycle licenses (at least where I live), you learn on a small engine model, and once you have That license for a year, you can get some real power.
I'll say it again, Australia has the best system, where beginners put a sign in the window for all others to see, can't drive at night, no tolerance...

I think 16 is too young to have a no limit license, with tons of power, and no years of practice behind you.

Well i'm not 16,more like 18, i know that doesn't seem like much to the people on here in their 20's and 30's but it's not like not used to driving high powered cars.Me and my dad have a small fleet of high HP mustangs from the 60's. Also when i was in my honda club, we had turbo, sprayed, and all motor civics and integras pushing 250-300hp. So i dont think you should generalize all younger drivers. So as you can see i've been through all the cars with all there pros and cons

American=Raw Muscle and Torque
Japanese=Reliability,High HP, Fast Accel and style'n (no rice)
(Now) German= HP, Luxury, and Precision

i've been through the cycle much younger than alot of people.Thats why i've finally had a chance to get into german precision, which is why i'm here and in hopefully a year or so before i go off into VMI, i'll have a High HP 540i

Good answer, I was totally not directing anything at you either, or others on the board, just speaking in general.
There are a lot of good young drivers, but even they will realize at 25 0r 35 how much years of experience add to your skill.
Of course there are people that NEVER learn and are oblivious to what is around them no matter how much you help them!

lol there's another thread about that somewhere. 89 or 91 or better. it should be written on your gas cap. if/when you chip it, then 91.

282 hp is so much easier when its on a BMW chasis. Have you guys seen BMW's new ad campaign with the X3 and it avoids crashes by just being a good handler and giving more information to the driver? It applies to the E34 too. :)

282 hp isnt crap in detroit iron, 500+ is a starting point for power and my little 162 inch engine will blow that off on the highway over 80mph. Im talking about my 500+hp can-am with a 462 inch engine that can smoke the tires for 1/8 mile and spin them int 3rd gear at 80mph.

These cars are so over designed it sucks..

Ill never go back to useless american muscle except for the holeshot factor.

I didnt get my first BMW until i was 20. I was born in 84 and drove junky old beaters from age 16 until I got my 530 a year and a half ago. (well there was an 85 diesel mercedes in the mix that was pretty nice, at least until my brother wrecked it) When the headgasket went a month ago, I started looking for a new car, and after test driving several cars of all nationalities.. i realized that I just wanted another BMW. I didnt care what BMW, i just wanted another one. So I bought an 89 325i to get me by until i can possibly fix my 530i. Some of my co-workers think its silly that I'm car stubborn like that, but its just hard to go to anything else. I miss driving my 530 though... i just get to look at it sitting in the garage right now... :(

I guess I can't say much. I got my first Mercedes in college. It was a '66 250S. It was sedate compared to the Javelin I had two cars before that would do 130mph all day long. The rest of you guys shouldn't worry about feeling old; this was in 1978.

To really experience the power of 540iA, select S4... and stomp on the gas. Be sure to do this on highway only... you will run out of space so soon... and be sure no one is in front of you.

Aha! It is gear selector 4... just below D. S4 means sport mode... totally different animal. Just be very careful driving in this mode.
