e34 HVAC dash center vent problem

My e34 530 has a problem with the center dash (fresh air) vents in that the vanes that you can move left and right seem to have parted from the lever device that actually moves them left or right. Does anyone know how I can remove the vent unit to repair/replace it??

There are 2 possibilities:
a) the levers are broken of the vanes
b) the stepper motors are off=bracket for the stepper motors are broken.

For the stepper motors bracket, you can either make an easy fix with a plstic strip/clip, or replace it

Thanks Shogun, it looks pretty complicated, but fingers crossed. Gale also came through with some info, so I reckon I'll be ok to get this sorted.
