Does this happen when you put it in reverse or drive, or when it is shifting between gears? In any case, i would check your transmission fluid level, it has been my experience that our transmission is very touchy oncerning fluid level. It might be possible that your stall speed is off, i dont really know.
From the bentley manual:
"hard jolt when shifting from N to R or D"
"a. idle speed too high"
"b. ATF level low"
"c. Faulty transmission range switch"
"d. Internal transmission fault"

Where is this "faulty" transmission switch on the 530iT? Is it under the shifter and prone to Dr Pepper and hot coffee? how much is one? I'd sure like to replace that before going to valve body replacement.

"Hard Jolt on Upshift or Downshift"
(again, form the bentley)
"a. Faulty clutch/clutches"
"b. valve body faulty"
"c. transmission electronics faulty"
You really should get a bentley manual.

I have noticed an occasional jolt like you describe in several autos I have driven over the years. I always thought it was the trans changing gears at the exact moment when I happened to put the foot down or take it off the accelerator.
I never worried about it and it never amounted to anything.
