Are you sure? Mine is screwed on the side... doesn't seem like a plausible spot for it just under the rear shelf...

I concur. 3 are required for cars to be sold to the OZ market. I'm not sure what the laws are in Canada.
Oh good. So I can just find a bolt of that size and use it as a tie down for loose things...

In the boot? If the thread goes all the way through I can't see why not. They're a fairly strong anchor point. Alternatively BMW make some pretty good luggage restraint systems for most models. Pretty pricey though I bet. Good luck.

Is that an accurate thread size? I'd just buy three 72 11 1 922 499 screws from your local dealer (should be REALLY cheap).

35mm long or about 1 1/4 inches but why would they have a 5/16 bolt on a german car? Sounds like GM or Ford instead.. I'd just go down to the nearest ace hardware and try some various pitch 5/16 bolts and try some 8mm bolts with various pitchs also...
