1989 535i Automatic

The toll switch for the driver side window which is nested between the 4 window open/close buttons in non-functional. It is suppose to open the driver side window with just a "tap". It does nothing. I'd like to access the inner workings of the switch to see what is going on.
Does anyone know how to get the switch out or how to remove the console to access it?
I don't want to make a mess of it.:(

TIA

Could you post a picture of what youre describing? The swith in the fron left corner of the switch panel is the dirvers window. Press it briefly and the window should go down all the way. Mine seemed to be a little picky at first, but it just requires a special touch.

Are you talking about this button?

It's the window lock. It serves to disable the window switches in the rear so children can't get into trouble.

The "one touch down" feature is accessed just by pressing down on the front-left button for about 0.5 seconds. You've got to get the timing just right -- takes some practice.

Cleaning the window switch aids in using the auto-down feature. The contacts get dirty over time and make it that much more difficult to get the timing right.

Scott made the police reports last week... Jill is disgraced and is quoted as having said, "I can't believe he'd do that. I know he's an ankle grabber, but David Hasselhoff... these are difficult times." Scott defends his image, "What did people think I bought a Touring for. I thought it was understood what the large cargo area would be used for - apparently I should be more outspoken with my intentions." Local resiidents comment that Scott is more than outspoken, sporting a "homosexuality flag" license plate on the front of his yuppy german sports car.

It is a sad day in Chicago.

Scott - we know that the front bumper was replaced when Hasselhoff had you doubled over on the hoo- nm, I can't stomach the story. You put up a good defense, but honestly you should consider the children in the neighborhood.

Yes, that is the button. I'll work on my touch. And the child proof feature will come in real handy.

Thanks

The photo supplied by Jay makes it clear that all the switches are contain in a single block. In order to clean the switch how is that block removed from the console?

Thanks

at the very least auto down on the drivers side, you just have to jab the button quickly , if your timing is right it will auto down.. some people never get the hang of it. Here's the procedure for removing the window switch. Its a little more trouble to take the switch apart and clean it, you better put it in a plastic bag first or you'll loose parts. http://www.bimmernut.com/%7Ebillr/images/windowswitch.jpg

There's an auto down feature??

My car's a '90 and it has auto down and up on the driver's window, but not on any of the others.

You have to press the button for about a quarter second to activate the function. Not more, not less. Practice makes perfect.

Stupid, really. My Celica, which is four years older than my BMW, has a much better solution: press the button gently for normal window operation -- press it harder for one-touch-down, and the button will 'click' into position and stay there while the window rolls down. No guesswork at all.
