I've heard great things about those tires, except that they're expensive. But $74 isn't expensive, so you seem to have found a bargain.

I'd have gone with the AVS db2 if my budget had allowed. Instead I went with Falken ZE-512s, and I'm very happy with them. I paid more than $74 for them, though.

Are you sure the discounted tires aren't in some wacky size? 205/75/13? ;)

Personally I am not a fan of Yok's, but many people are. Some say there wear to quickly. I think Town Fair Tire has a "real" treadwear warranty on them.

Other options.

Avons
Falkens
Toyos

When price is no object, I always choose Michelin

I'd rather buy Avon instead of Yoko.

I just bought a set of the Michelin Exalto's for my daughters MB. They were around $470 out the door at Sears with the Road Hazard and Lifetime rotate and balance. Installed.

I know it's a little much, but the tires are great. The steering response is excellent, they also have the best ratings for an all season tire from the rack.

You might want to check them out before you make a decision. I would recommend them.

Take a look also at the BF Goodrich Traction T/As. They're also V-rated and only 80 apiece. I only mention them because it's what I've got. I can't post much of a review as I've only put about 600kms on them, but compared to the cracked Toyos I had before they're quieter, smoother riding, better gripping, give more precise steering and have great snow traction as well.

PS: Tire Rack also has some Kumhos in the same size, same speed rating, but they're summer tires only for < $50 apiece. I can't be arsed to look them up right now as I am a lazy bum, but you can easily find them.

I have a set and have loved them. The are great in the rain and not too shabby on the dry stuff. These do get costly with the larger sizes, but for stock sized wheels- they are a great deal. Can't beat them at this price.

Wow, $74 each! I just paid $108 per for Avon M550s, 235/45 17. Haven't gotten them yet, but have heard good things.

The 15s are far cheaper than your 17s.

I'm considering 235/45-17, General Exclaim UHP for summer. Just $74 a piece as well :)

I'll be ordering them from TireRack soon.

Well rated thus far, just a bit over 200k miles reported. If they're good tires that's a deal, weird that they're M+S rated but in the summer catagory. Now I kind of wish I had seen those. I'm a bit scared of cheap tires after the Falkens I had on a 911, and the horror stories I've heard about Kumho. Tire Rack's ratings seem to be pretty spot on though, and if that's the case those are a real deal.

Guys - I've been considering Kumho Ecsta's in 235/45-17. I've always heard pretty good things about Kumho, but have now seen a couple mentions of "horror stories" about them. What gives? Are they problematic?

You're not kidding that's a good price, but did you read the reviews? I'd be a little concerned about a common theme in maybe 1/4 of them that complain about uneven wear, early wearout, and substantial noise. Not everyone has the problem, but the incidence of these reports is much higher than for known good tires like the Pilot Sport 2. I never had Yokos, so I can't say anything firsthand about them, it's just that those reviews don't look good at all.

I have had two sets of PS2s on my E34. The first went about 40K and wore with perfect uniformity down to the point at which there wasn't enough tread for my liking, which is about 1/16th" above the wear bars. The second set had about 5K on them when I sold the car and looked like new. IMO, they're great all-around tires and well worth the extra $$.

I ordered the UHPs yesterday so I'll see how they are. 500 break in miles should be easy to achieve :)

The reviews on these are a lot better than on the Yokos. I've never thought seriously about General tires -- my image of them is that of big fat whitewalls on '60s and '70s Detroit whales. Guess they've been busy. I'd be interested in what you think of them.

I would have to echo Jr here and recommend Michelins. They are the only brand of tyre I have never been disappointed with.
Its a real bummer if you buy something you don't like and have to live with them for a couple of years.
Currently I have Michelin Pilot HX MXMs on my Bimmer and they are brilliant.
I also have Michelin Diamaris on my ML270 CDI and they are also the best tyre I have ever had on this vehicle - better than the Pirelli Scorpion Zeros I had last.

Yes I agree, I love michelins i have had them before but i can't afford the extra money right now. I read the reviews, i do not like the uneven fast tread wear but i have to take a chance, hopefully it does it within a year :)
I talked to my dad yesterday and he wants to trade my laptop for my 4 tires. I need tires and in the process for buying an intrepid for 300 bucks in awesome shape just need to replace a gasket or 2 and get some brakes on it, and use the other extra money to put into the car beings i am still missing a door trim which pisses me off everyday, a hood emblem and 3 under door sill trims.
So im going to try the yoko's and even if they do go to sh*t fast atleast i feel a bit better beings i got this laptop for basiclly free. I will defenitly post back on how the tires do tho. Hopefully i get rims soon.......... Wish me luck!!
