I've broken into my 525iT using a coat hanger- the old fashioned way! Just pull the driver's door window frame out a bit and hook the bent coat hanger over the lock knob. Be careful not to rip the door seal or scratch the paint- it's tricky but can be done.

Where are you in NC BTW?? I'm near Raleigh.

Don't understand that key is in radio?????

Did you double lock the car or just lock? If double locked then you even cannot open from inside by pulling somehow the pin and then pull the door unlock. That will not work.

@Bret: the hanger trick does not work when car is double locked. At least not on an E32

Yeah, we'll have to hear it from Calico, but I *think* the key in the radio means that they are in the cassette slot or something. Also, to double lock the doors, I think you have to have the key in the lock, right??
So, that's hopefully NOT the case.

I left my music playin while i was in the backseat looking for something. Then stupidly, i shut the back door. now my music is playing, but all my doors are locked, and i think it is double locked

how you could double lock without the key...from the outside.

Must some kind of special talent

i think it's double locked b/c when i lift up the lock, it doesn't open the door.

is there a reason i cant lock my doors from the inside, and that my car doesnt automatically lock when starting to drive, or is the fact that its a 89 the reason...

You can only double lock the car with the key from the outside, unless you have a remote, but you would have to lock the car with the back door open get in and then put the keys down then get out and shut door. You can get a key from the dealer but you need the key number, and some proof of identity and proof that the car is yours. If you dont have the key number i am not sure that the dealer can give you the key from the vin

You should be able to lock the car from the inside .Dont know about the auto lock..we dont have that

No automatic door locking when you start driving. You have to push the driver's doorlock pin down, then all doors are locked automatically.

Never mind i got them out. Since the keys were still in the ignition,i was able to reach in through the door with a close hanger and open it up. Im glad the keys were in the ignition instead of just "in the car"

Now that you have your keys out of the locked vehicle...PLEASE do the right thing and go to the dealer and order a spare key!!! There are several keys you can purchase...if you go to the online parts database...you can see which ones are available by your car's VIN.

Not all of the keys in the diagram can be used on your car...depending on mfg date...you could either have EWS or EWS II...the latter requires a key that has an embedded chip.

If your car was mfg'd after 1/95 click the following link to see the available keys...if it was mfg'd before that...click "select another car" & enter its VIN: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HJ63&mospid=47414&btnr=41_0044&hg=41&fg=40

Keys for mfg date "from" 1/95
#14 - general "master" (lighted) key
#15 - general "master" key
#16 - service/valet key (only works in door & ignition)
#17 - spare or "wallet" key (for temporary use only)

Here's pics of the (EWS II) lighted master key, regular master key, and the service/valet key for my 525iT (w 11/95 mfg date)

There was a large production run of E34s that BMW no longer has key codes for. Those cars must have an existing key duplicated.

Yeah thanks everyone for your info. I just ordered a spare key today from BMW, cost about $50 or so. Should get it in the next couple of days. THANKS!
