its murphys law to always miss a spot while working your ass (and fingers) off...but if you meant the rear bumper, it has to be repainted not enough paint left to be restored

Nice job. I had mine done last fall and it really brings it back it life. Of course I didn't spend 6 hours. I spent $200 and had someone else do it along with stream clean the interior and leather conditioning.

wow! did you have swirl marks or other paint damage?

there was very very minor swirl marks on the hood, the only paint damage I have is both bumpers, paint is pretty much shot in both places (salvaged some of the front bumper w/some compound & extra elbow grease). Theres a few imperfections from previous owner (knicked paint where they debadged) but it cleaned up nicely for being 14 years old...

What's a 'claybar'?

You go over your car's paint with it before you wax, it takes the imperfections out. It's literally a bar of clay, used with a detailer spray that acts as a lubricant. The before and after is pretty amazing if you've never done it, it makes your finish smooth as glass.

Golden, what products did you use?

I used all Mothers products, the california gold wash, clay bar, and the three step wax products (pre wax cleaner, sealer and glaze, and carnauba wax). I have used turtlewax products on my mothers ford and meguiars on my e38, and I have to say that Mothers produced better results.

It is a synthetic and puts a really deep shine on my dark green car. Then I often use mother's topper wax or s100 or poorboys natty's blue wax. Looks even deeper with both a synthetic wax protection and carnuaba wax protection. Of course, best results when you prepare ethe surface with detail clay, polishes before wax. Prep is everything.

hmmm...orange peel? if memory serves me, its when the paint texture is uneven after a car or something has been painted. My car looks/feels pretty smooth to me, so where do u see this so called orange peel?

your right...I didnt clean the insides of the wheels, I should of but I didnt...

EDIT: haha, its not "orange peel" you see, the "texture" is from not having a high res camera and resizing the picture...

i did the mothers 3 step and clay bar, 6 months later, still glossy even when dirty. Great product.

OMGOSH, someone please PM me what to buy, and how to do it, I've got so much paint damage, but not enough $$ to repaint... At least give me a link to somewhere where it shows, I need to fill in rock chips most importantly...
You will be my hero if you help me fix this before Summer...:D

Sure your car has orange peel. ALL BMW paint has orange peel!

You can see it clearly in the third picture down here. Look at the reflection of the tree in front of the garage. The branches are wavy. So is the roofline of the garage, which is sharp in the first picture. It's not really a defect

Most new cars have orange peel, my wife's 4Runner had it. My car has a respray, it if didn't have orange peel before, it sure as hell does now.

Charles, most 3 step systems are pretty easy, it you've ever waxed a car you can handle it. In KS Pep Boys sells the Mothers Reflections stuff, the regular Mothers products, as well as Meguiars. All of which are pretty easy to use, and should give you good results. As for the rock chips, it's very difficult to get good results DIY. I would recomend getting a price for touch up from a body shop, for just rock chips it shouldn't be that much.
