You need a typical "BMW" adapter from Circuit City, they should know this. Get a BMW adapter thats got the big part that connects to the radio on one side and bare on the other and you hardwire it. Unless youre talking about the small maybe 1/2" x 1/2" square connector, which is the control for the BMW CD Changer... which you can't use...

I am not sure what you're trying to do... it sounds to me like you're doing an aftermarket CD changer to an OEM radio? If this is true, it won't work unless its FM Modulated.

It's the pioneer cdxm30 I bought on ebay. My regular 5 series radio that everyone has I bought on ebay also.
It has a square receiver on the back, and the cd changer cable has a round plug. I've seen the bmwpio adapters, but that's a 14 pin to 13 pin, and both ends are round.
This sucks. I was so looking forward to jamming cd's on the way home.

I'm now reading that if my radio is alpine 1,2, or 3, it will never work with the pioneer cdxm30...is that right?

better count the pins, too, probably one is 13-pin and the other 14. I assume you are talking about the pre-wired data cable for the CD changer? If so, PIE makes ana adapter for it... in fact, they make two, you have to make sure you get the right one. This could be the right one (http://www.audiowarehouse.peachhost.com/ct_PR179978817.htm) - then again, it could be the wrong one (there are two).

you probably need the PIO/M adaptor

Jeff,
You need the AAMP BMWPIO adapter and it will be plug and play. I had the same changer with my old five and went through this same thing many years ago. Check out http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e34/stereo/e34_cd_changer.html for a great reference on BMW changers. Circuit City or any local radio shop should be able to find it for you at a cost of $10-20 (depending on the supplier).
Good Luck,
Rory
