OK, spring is coming and I really need to do the lower door trims and get the rust out before there is nothing left. Which #8 do I have? I'm guessing MTech since they are more expensive. 95 540. Also does anyone know if they just come primed and I or someone else paint them white to match the car? Thanks

Thanks Scott, I was 99% sure, just wanted someone to say "no, you don't need to pay double." Damn, that's around $250 for the whole set of salt trappin pieces of...

Yes those are expensive trim pieces. They have changed the design and no longer use the metal strips inside the trim pieces, they're plastic now.

Harder than dick's hatband to re-install. A little bit of grease will help, so will laying on the floor, pushing up on the bottom of the door for leverage. You might have to have some rust killed at the bottom of the doors where the old strips used to live before you reinstall the new ones.

I need to do the same job in the spring (95 540). Is this a dealer part or can I get it somewhere else?

Thanks.

BMA has them. So they're palstic now? Mine are so rusted, there's no way I could re use them. They're just crumbling inside.

Scott, I'm gonna tackle this same task over the weekend. This old post has some info on treating the rust

Evan, post soem pics and let us know how it goes. I still probably have a month at least to go until I don't have to worry about snow and salt before I start taking things apart.

I'm planning on taking photos of my 540 tomorrow... she is a complete mess. I'm worried a little that my lower doors may just fall off when I remove the trim though... either way I'll take some shots.

I started to work on mine after installing some new fender liners, and got a nasty surprise. The whole bottom edge of the driver side fender is rotted out along the clinch seam line - looks good from the outside, but it's a total write off. Anyone out there bought replacements from BMA? I know they offer the OEM, but have an off brand for quite a bit less. Either way, while they're replacing that, I'm definitely going to have the other rust reigned in. 76,000 miles and 10 Chicago winters. No more salt for this car. Once fixed, a little undercoating in the "problem spots" will hopefully help against any more of this crap.

At Least I would expect so since the 95 525is came with the Mtech side skirts. Do not know for the earlier 525is with out side skirts.
