any curvy(not TOO tight) road be it main highway or secondary road.....some roads are built for the e 34.....leave it in third and use the silky smooth tourque or the revs...,if you dont have to really brake hard the handling is so neutral and the car seems to shrink around you...

Get in at about 7.am on almost every Saturday morning. Get on 1-95 on my way to the first tee at 8.am in Fort Lauderdale. Ahh what a feeling...., I-95 here in Miami is almost empty at that time and the cops are nowhere to be seen.!! Again I say what a feeling!!!!! I have owned 4 Cars since I moved down here to Florida, and the E-34 morning drive .... Again IIIII say .... what... a .... feeling!!!!!

taconic parkway is sweet, but a lot of times its too narrow for my tastes, especially around Chappaqua (for those that know the road). a lot of times theres *******s that don't know how to drive going way too fast and taking up both lanes.


i live by West Point, and there is one road that snakes along the side of the mountain, overlooking the hudson river, only open in the summers and closed when it rains too hard. its only a couple miles long but beautiful, and there's no possible way to get it out of 3rd. but wow its fun.


95 north of boynton beach sucks. last week though i drove from del ray to orlando in my buddies turbo jetta, starting at 5am, it was amazing. no traffic, no cops, 95mph the whole way.

Highway 17 from Los Gatos to Santa Cruz on an early Saturday morning.....2 lanes up thru the redwoods....50 mph speed limit.... couldn't be more fun in the 530 at 80....Schweet! Or Hwy 84 thru La Honda.....gotta love these cars....

Rather than name the highway number, here are the driving experiences I love.

There is a street interchange from one highway to another (the state cheaped out and didn't build real interchanges). 5 lanes off of one highway and 2 lanes on to the other and a traffic light between. I always end up (by choice) in the lane people don't realize is there. So there are 5 people in the lane next to me getting on and usually just me in my lane getting on. And am usually doing 85 by the time I hit the end of the on ramp and have passed 5 people in the other lane of the on ramp before I start to merge into traffic on the highway. I get to do this almost every morning and I absolutely love it! Oh that acceleration....

On the way home, there is a 3 mile stretch of curving 4 lane road next to a canyon that has almost no traffic and no cops--speed limit 45. It is real easy to do 75 through there and feel how the car holds the road through the curves.


And then there is the 20 miles through Camp Pendleton Marine base that saves San Diego from being invaded by LA urban sprawl. The ocean is on one side, raw land, small mountains and coastal scrub on the other side....At sunrise or sunset it is gorgeous because of the beautiful pink glow of the light. And early morning, especially weekends, is the best because traffic is really light. EVERYONE drives 80 through there in the daytime and 90 in the early morning. It is a no worries zone for drivers.

I live in San Diego, and love the trek to Vegas. On 15N between barstow and LV their are several stretches that are sweet. One is a mountainous winding road that lets me lean on my Koni/Eibach suspension and the other is a down hiller, super smooth, high speed 500 ft. drop down hill racer.

When I lived in SoCal (Orange County) Ortega Highway (San Juan Capistrano to Lake Elsinore) was where I learned to ride a motorcycle, (and defensive driving) wish I had a BMW back then, great road but I don't know how it is 20 years later. I saw a show on the Discovery channel about all the bikes that flock out there, people killing themselves weekly. Too many people...nothing like riding a motorcycle to make yourself invisible to them.

On the right coast where I live now, I took my favorite ride up the Delaware River on 32 yesterday to Easton, PA. Then jumped on I-78 (first time on it) and was doing 100 before I knew it, road surface was not the greatest going east back into Jersey but the new Bilsteins smoothed it out real nicely.

Then thought, hey, this is the stretch of road (though Camp Pendleton) that I said was one of my favorite places to drive so why not snap a few? Sorry they are not as sharp as the could be but that happens when the car is moving.

My drive through here today was wonderful. It is the early morning drives that are the best especially on weekends. Traffic is light and there are no police (everyone drives 90 instead of 80) and the sky is pink. Driving throught Pendleton then is absolutely glorious.

12 mile long River road at night - that way the lights of oncoming traffic give warning and there are a couple sweeping turns with mmmmm new smooth pavement and a couple tight S turns under railroad underpasses - both real fun - one underpass has a nice hill coming out of it that makes a down shift feel great. The E30 or the 533 are great on that road, the loaded 4300# touring hampered with an auto sucks, even with the D'Sylva chip. OTH, Sally likes cruising in the country w/ me in that car 'cause it's less stressful and she doesn't get flung around in her seat. Makes me a perfect old fart driver. It was great towing the trailer to the dump this morning....

You and Pancake can hang out and work on your 5ers together. You will probably be about 15 miles apart as San Onofre is at the north end of Pendleton. Watch out though as he would be a bad influence on you. The Corps frowns on drugs but is good with booze.

When going for the high G-force fun I like to hit the Mark Twain national forest pavement. Super smooth and sweepy with tons of articulation and switchbacks to challenge anyones dexterity and reaction.Hundreds of miles of it with large beautiful old oaks and mature tall pines with an unforgiving rock ditch always threatening the beginners !:p
Used to be my crotch rocket haven when I thought those were the ticket.Wore out my first set of "knee pucks" and leathers there.
I enjoy it better now with the open top and windows down so you can smell the pine trees and such.
When your tired of driving the lakes are always nice to explore and cruise those views for our American Bald Eagles or mountain lions,Bobcats or fishing

Pancake--You should check out Pacific Beach. Every single person in San Diego lives there. It is wall to wall bars and babes. As far as I know the surf is just as good as San Onofre and here is a concept--you could get a job. Not a lot of employers in San Onofre unless you want to join the Marine Corp.

You are in Washington state--correct? How far is it to Banff?


From here (~90 mins. north of Seattle), can get to Banff or Jasper in a day, and it would be a very enjoyable driving day, with some time for scenic outlooks, etc. If you come up this way, I can tell you of some decent side routes and stops, such as Hell's Gate. Camping in the parks of the Canadian Rockies is about the best there is--excellent campgrounds, reasonable prices, nice people, incredible scenery, very nice roads designed for all types of vehicles. In other words, you don't get stuck behind some Winnebago like in the American parks. This because there is a LOT less traffic, and because the roads are designed with lots of wide lanes and long passing zones. PM me your email address and I'll forward some pics I took a couple of summers ago along this route. August is the best month, as July has more rain and more Canadians travelling with their kids. August is drier, and by then the kids mostly are back home. That's also an excellent respite from the heat down south. I'd combine it with a tour around Vancouver Island, Vancouver, Whistler, Glacier National Park in Montana, and maybe Grand Tetons/Yellowstone on the way home. Better yet, do the American part first, then on to Canada. You'll see what I mean, as the Canadian parks and route are a lot less crowded, so the trip would get consistently better as you go. No kidding.
