I recently purchased a 2002 530i and although I've had it less than a week, I gotta say from first impressions this is the best car I've ever owned. It's amazing how responsive the motor is for a 6 cylinder. And the handling, wow, it hugs the road so well even in the tightest of turns. My only fear is speeding tickets because it's so smooth at higher speeds, I don't realize how fast I'm going until I look at the speedometer or notice how much slower the other cars are traveling.
Even the dealership experience was great. They were very professional and courteous. Talk about a "no hassle" experience.
When I get my digital camera working I'll post some pictures. The car is just so awesome looking. Black exterior with tan leather interior. Great upgraded rims too.
Consider me a *happy* new member of the BMW club!!! :)

steve congrats to you, however that is a little too nice of a car for you in my opinion-perhaps downgrading to something in the late eighties or early nineties might a be a shade more appropriate. NOBODY should be able to start out with that nice of a car - regards mike in tucson;)

Thanks, I guess :p . I'm reading through the posts here and everyone seems to have a 90's or 80's BMW model. Is this a site for older models becuase I do want to do a few things to my car, and would love expert advise (been there, done that, sorta stuff)? If this is a site for older models, could someone please point me to a site where owners of 2000-ish 5 series owners post? Thanks in advance. :)

Don't mind that previous post. While this forum focuses on E34s, there are plenty of people around here who know E39s.
Welcome!

I was just reading somewhere that the 530 is the best balanced e39 5-series.

Thanks. Just learning BMW terminology (E34s, E39s, etc..). Did a little google research and now understand. When my digital camera is fixed I'll post pictures with questions. Firstly my rims, they have some corrosion. The dealer said it was "glue seepage" and it happens to these type of rims. I'd like to know if it can be removed safely.

yea, welcome Steve. Stick around as evolution is taking shape there are a lot of these around on the forum. We mainly talk about E34s, off topic and porn (not necessarily in that order). I would like to learn more about your car and willing to help as I learn.

E39 530i are great! Fantastic buy!
My dad has an 2001 E39 530iA and it's such a fantastic car, on the highway, start-stop traffic, through rough roads with twisties, this car is fantastic!:)
Get some pics up!
You will find much more E39 expertise on roadfly's E39 forum http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/e39/ than here. This isn't a slap at the members here because there are many with in-depth knowledge of these cars, it's just that there aren't many members with E39s. Bimmerboard and bimmerfest also have E39 forums that are more active for that model than here.
Case in point, you have double Vanos on that engine. Browse down their E39 forum and have a look at the discussion about the double Vanos. (You may have dodged that particular bullet though because you have the M54 engine which appears not to have the problem.) Point is, here's a significant problem affecting a range of years of the five-series E39, and there hasn't been a single word about it here.
OTOH, roadfly is something of a pain in the ass. There's some censorship going on and they have automatic post filters that substitute "[oops!]" for words or URLs they don't like. The oopsing can get pretty silly. I once posted something about changing fluids and said something like "...suck out the old oil..." and it came out "...[oops!] out the old oil..."
Anyhow, I hope you enjoy your car. I'm a former E34 owner but now have an '01 540/6/Sport suspensioni/Staggered M-parallels and am very happy with it. You will get a smile on your face for any number of design features of this car. For instance, you will find many discussions here about E34 cabin air filters and 1) how much trouble it is to change them, or 2) how early E34s didn't have one. Your car has two, and they can both be changed in under a minute.

BMW are renound (at least in Germany) for their in-line 6 cylinders. Like Porsche with their boxer, they excel in their art. Enjoy your new found pleasure in driving and stay safe!
So, are the newer 530i's a 6 or an 8 cylinder?
