hi guys
maybe its a bit late to ask this but i just bought a set of cross drilled rotors and s/s brake lines for my car, anyone here has these on their car? if you do, how are they working so far? what about pad life? i chose the c/drilled ones over the c/drilled and slotted ones cause i was told the slotted ones eat the life out of your pads.
any comments?
thanx

Cross drilled are great... great stopping power, great wearing, easy on pads... however it is noisy... whines sounds like plane landed and applied brake.... in much smaller way.
Slotted is also great... not as great as slotted in stopping power, but much quieter. It will groan only under hard braking.

they look cool, give you bragging rights, useless on a street car. same goes for the ss brake hoses.

Here's why you don't buy cross drilled.

i purchased zimmerman which are casted with the slots, they claim this keeps them from cracking. i have them on my 325e for 4 years & my e34 540i/a for 2 years & never had an issue. the little growl noise does not bother me at all.
i have over 30,000mi. on them on the 325e & the pads are showing very little were.

check for rotor cracks and let us know what you find.

ok with this being said, my cousin has 3 S500 benz and a S600 benz, i noticed they all have cross drilled rotors, and they came that way, he didnt put them on, i wonder mercedes would put these on their cars if they knew it would crack?

My car had zimmermans and metal masters on it when I bought it. They are noisy and the growling does bother me. I am just waiting for them to wear out so I can justify changing them.

That's the sound I was talking about... I like the sound because it tells me how hard I am braking...

I had only crossdrilled... and I had them on for 7 years. Not a single crack and I am hard on brake. Zero crack. Brake pad last forever... it outlasted my rotor which warped after 5 years... had it cut but it lasted only another 2 years... yet still no crack.
I don't recommend recutting cross-drilled rotor... they won't last long.
I think the primary reason for crack aside from fatigue is people wash they wheels after driving... cold water and super hot rotor does not go together... especially on cross-drilled.
