i went into advance auto today because someone in the "deals and promotions" forum of bobistheoilguy.com said that they had delo 15w40 for $1.50/quart and halvoline high mileage for peanuts. of course, this wan't the case at the store i went to. they do, however have a sale on all grades of pennzoil, including the 15w40 diesel stuff for $1.77 each. usually the cheapest diesel oil is the motorcraft 15w40 at walmart, but that's still $2.12/quart, so this is an OK deal right now. im trying to decide whether or not to pick up a case of 12 of this stuff and use it in the e34, or to stick with car oil until i'm comfortable with the "idle" on the engine again, enough to use 6,000 mile+syn change intervals.

i switched from castroil gtx 2050 in the e30 to the delo 1540 i run in the truck and **** did it quiet down the general valve train noise that older m20s just have, i thought it was quiet with the super tight adjustmemt i run on that car but the bounce back when running by guard rails with the windows down is probably 1/3 less, i don't think the viscocity difference is big enough to account for it, besides 10xx regular weight oils i find usually make em louder this thing sounds like it has a new cam and rockers, maybe the compression ignition rated delo is just better, have yet to see a "c" in the doughnut on castroil

the delo seemed to make the m50 a little quieter. however, last may, it got back down to 30s here, and boy did it not like it at startup. i had no idea what tappet noise was until i heard that.

you wanna hear shitty hydraulic lifters get a 96 and up volvo, run anything thicker then piss and it sounds like the head is about to punch through the hood

I've been running 2050 on my moms m50 motor for years and that thing stays quiet and it has 211k on it. Theres a chance it needs adjustments.

nothing to adjust it's hydraulic, 2050 is usually a little thick for the lifters but that may be on cruded up motors, stick with what works
