I've narrowed my oil leak down the the oil filter housing and wanted to find out if anyone could provide some guidance on making this repair. Would I be better off taking to the shop and paying the 3 to 4 hours labor or is this something that a eprson with average technical skill could entertain taking on themselves. Any guidance is much appreciated.

Its a straightforward job, its just nuts and bolts. If you look closely at it, you should be able to see what needs to be removed. Use the new part as a reference, and plan for a whole day of dirty work if you are an average DIYer.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Any recommendations on OEM parts suppliers for the filter housing or would this probably be dealer only item?

Bill, is it generally only gaskets and seals needed on this repair or is there a more substantial part that may be needed as in the housing itself?
In addition, I'm in a remote market that does not have a ready supply of BMW dealers with OEm BMW parts available, so can you recommend an online vendor of origianl equipment parts that I may use? Thx,
