I've just changed the oil on my '96 518i and have discovered a problem. The sump plug isn't the normal type I'm used to but aside from the standard hex head, is only about a centimetre long with just 2 threads on the length.
It also appears to have been bodged in at some point as it wasn't overly tight and although it hadn't leaked before, now I've had it out, it's weeping slightly. Mostly because it's so loose on the sump threads (which don't appear to be stripped) that I can't tighten it properly.
First off, is this the normal type of plug? And if not, what's the fix? A proper plug or a thread insert?
