View Full Version : e34 tire question..
hi everyone,
I bought my first bimmer 2 days ago. A mint 535 1990. This machine is so fun to drive!
So I already got some 255's at the rear. I was wondering if 275's would fit under the wheel arch. The car is 2'' lower.
What I'm looking for:
Front 245/40/18 with 18x8.5 (1.5 inch high polish lip)
Rear 275/35/18 with 18x9.5 (3.5 inch high polish lip)
I will probably sell the wheels and tire that I got at the moment.
It's Front 225/40 ZR 18 Pirelli PZero tires (new: 5% wear)
Rear 255/35 ZR 18 Pirelli PZero tires (new: 5% wear)
The wheels are CHROME wheels by Branzach. Personaly, I don't like that bling bling look. But maybe someone would like them.

not w/o fender modification......your best choice is to run 265/35-18 rear and 235/40-18 front.......HTH..........as for wheels with the lips you are looking for, I haven't a clue whats out there, but beware of replicas.they weigh a ton

It depends on the offset of the wheels. People with 18x9 et22 have no problem fitting 275/35/18 tires in the back. But with 18x9.5, you might have to mod. the fender lips.
Here is a link to see if the wheel and offset difference

I found a great deal 'used'. The rims are new as weel as the tires. I can get that for under 2000$can. That's so sad if they don't fit! What kind of modification you need to do? The 'iner' fender? Or the fender itself? You don't really need a 'wide body' midification to make them fit? Hope not!
Did you ever heard of 'beyern'? Are they consider as replicas? are they weight a ton?
here's the wheels that I'm looking to buy. 18x8.5 and 18x9.5.

How to measure an offset? Is it the lenght of the lip?

FYI
A number of the heavy hitters on this board will not respond to posts in which the person has not filled out their profile/signature and put in build date, mileage, location, mods etc.
Those wheels you are look at, should fit with no problem. But they need to be with ET15 both front and rear for e34 and bore of 72. For offset question, go to http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/index.jsp for more info.

Most good name brand shocks and springs setup will only give you 1" (roughly) in the front and back.
The car is pretty cool looking, a bit to 'pimped' for my taste but... with 18" wheels and this pic, it doesn't looked lowered at all.
I haven't heard of the brand of shocks or springs the original owner said he had installed, maybe others on the board have. I would def lift it up and check if it is indeed aftermarket springs and shocks.

I know man. that's I'm selling those! I really need classy wheels. The reason why I chose this car if that beacuse it was the cleanest 535 - black on black manual - low mileage that I found. brand new 'performance' parts like springs-shocks, wheels and tires, breaks and exhaust.

I would do some research on those brand names. See far they drop the car down. Also look at some profile pictures of fellow member's as far as their shock/spring and wheel setup and how much of a 'gap' they have.
The wheels are the only things I don't really like on the car. Maybe you should go with something similiar to those, like M-Parallels?
I do like the painted calipers though. I am planning on painting mine.

M-prallels, Throwing Stars or Style #5's are nice wheels for an E34.
Regarding lowering, your front looks only about .75"-1" and the rear about the same. There's an awful lot of space above your front wheel for a "dropped 2""...I realize that's what the PO told you, but there is no way.
My 540 came with the '95 sport package (6-sp, M-tech suspension, original Style #5 wheels [not the newer E39 versions requiring a hubcentric ring] ) Compared to other E34's I've seen, I believe the M-tech factory suspension was about 1.5" front, 1" rear drop. The front inner fenders were rolled at the factory to avoid slicing into the tire sidewall when fitted with the 235/45-17 tires.
Here's a close up of what 1.5" lower in the front looks like:

...and my car's overall stance (which I like a lot...Teutonically understated.. :D)

Just trying to let you know one possible reason you had 32 looks and no answers.
But now you have gotten some good response. Peter (PMLMotorSports) is a wheel guy. And Whit (Lowell) is a professional mechanic. Just telling you so you can recognize the credibility behind the comments.
Also you might want to lose the K& N filter. To get the history of this quote "K&N filters are bad, they let small pebbles and possibly things as large as small birds into your intake."
read this thread: http://www.bimmer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=19269&highlight=small+birds
Duey's pic has style 5s.

Here are my M parallels. (Sorry the pic is so bad--taken with my last digital camera). M Parallels were on the M series. There are a lot of replicias around.
These three wheels are the classic choices for e34.
