Does anybody here have those smoked rear light sets?(I hear Hella makes/made a set) Or, does anybody have pictures of those lights on cars, either your cars or others? What do you think of them? I am interested in purchasing some, and I would like some info, and also where to purchase them ebcause I cannot find any online...
Thanks!

Ricey, IMHO.
have you seen them in person? i thought I was going to hate them before I saw them in person, now I wouldnt take them off for any reason. it makes my e34 so much more distinct from others around town, give it a much more aggresive look as well.
especially hellas, def not rice

they look different on the angle and how much light hits them. here is an older shot, also shows how much of a difference the m5 plate holder makes

they look alright on darker coloured cars.. but i think you have to have a "smoked" theme.. dark rims, shadowline, etc for it to really fit
They looks good on light color cars too. because they are actually dark gray, not totally black, they will look darker than they really are on a lighter car. Check out my phto album at YAHOO http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jjw168/album?.dir=f568

I'm a big fan of smoked tails on E30, but not as much on e34s....
Here's what we've done with the Fake M5's

Which Tail section do you referto? The fill piece between the tail lights? I got it from the dealer, but I think you can get it from BMA also.

Yes, I've been told its the "M5 License plate frame"
How much did you pay for it at the dealer?
How much do you estimate it will cost at BMA?
Thanks!

Here are a set of home made smoked tails. I tinted the amber corners with spray on window tint and some masking tape. For about $20 it is tough to beat.
Not really remember, it's been over 10 years, but I think around $60 or $70. BMA might be cheaper, but don't think it will be that much. Maybe give them a call to see.

If done tastefully and quality standard, I think they can look pretty good...
Pic that Jon K has posted further down is a bit overkill tho...

Not sure which bit you are talking about, but my bumper is stock bumper, or M-tech, which should be avail. from dealer or BMA.

Smoked my OEM clear tails meself too. Always looks good on a black car. Easy job and looks as if it was made that way. On a lighter color car with the Hella smoked you need to get that M5 plate as the inner 2 lenses are dark grey not dark red. With the plate it gives it that more uniform look.
