Looking to install factory CD player

Can anyone tell me about adding a factory cd player in my 91 525i. I saw something somewhere about finding what factory radio came with the car, I believe Alpine or something else. I'm not sure what I have. I do have wiring for a cd unit in the trunk. I appreciate any input.

The first step is to determine which radio generation you have, which is done by pressing prog and minus key at the same time.

Now you can go out in the world, ebay, ect. and get the right stuff, including the bracket. I'm very happy I did it and got a great unit from Zak right here on this board.

There is other info in the archieves concerning compatability with modern units especially concerning an interface cable of some kind but I was lucky enough to get the stock unit w/ no interface issues,
