No welding on exhaust ??

1993 525i 87K on it. I have a new oem rear replacement muffler and am ordering the oem middle muffler tonight. The middle muffler pipes each bolt to the end of the cat so it looks like no welding is needed there. Question is how do I join the end muffler and middle muffler, they look sleeved to slide together so can I just use 2 c-clamps and get away with no welding? Is there a rubber seal or anything in there ??

so they are easier to ship, and replace.

Welding is best (after you mock it up/ dry fit and tack weld it)

You can use clamps, but not the U type, look for the band type for a good leak proof seal.

arent they stainless steel? If so you should mig them with stainless wire.

I use stainless U-clamps and i LOVE the sound the leaks provide. Brrrrrrmmm, brrrrmmm, bub bub bub bub......

OK, I don't like the leaks, so listen to Bob.

I searched for other types of muffler clamps but only found 'circular band seals' for turbo pipes - does anyone have a part or picture of a better muffler clamp ?

I will try the u- clamps and some metal muffler tape to get me through until I can have it welded next week. maybe I can find some high-temp rubber donuts to seal the pipes better. Anything is better than the headpounding exhaust sound now :) I also need to act before my cats are fried from backflow heat build-up.
