V8 Valley pan gasket

Removed the valley pan of the 4.0L V8 on the stand.

I ordered the valley pan gasket over the weekend from the dealer. Bell Auto in New Jersey, called me saying the valley pan gasket is no longer available (#2 in the link). I have to buy the new and improved pan and gasket. The pan alone is $70 and change.

I checked the ETK for E39 540. See link.

It has the same part number but the pan and gasket is apparently sold together now.

Anyone has insight?

I am inclined to cut my own paper gasket for the pan. Even if I screw up. It is not terribly inaccessible when installed to correct it.

My favorite non-dealer parts source is AutoHauz in AZ. Although free UPS ground shipping takes a long time to reach New Jersey. Don't think they have it. It is not under cooling parts nor under engine parts. Unless I missed it.

Guess I have to pay up. Or I'll use permatex orange to make my own gasket.

It is my new engine at 66k miles.

The old one has low compression. Wouldn't fire. I suspect the Nikasil finally caught up to it. But will not know until I finish the project to have time to open it up.

The V8 on the stand is very clean. It is spotless on the inside.

But the outside is not as clean as in that picture. I cleaned it with gunk remover and a stack of paper towels.

I have to do compression on the new one before putting it in.

I would strongly advise that you use the correct gasket, not a chemical sealer (anaerobic or otherwise). RTV is the worst.

lol, Whit's saying drop the cash for the new pan and gasket. You wouldnt like to get it all together and find you have a miss at idle cause of a stupid part thats gonna take you all day to replace since your "right there" now. Code 1222 rings a bell.
